To read in one breath: A Reefbum’s Guide to Keeping an SPS Reef Tank: A Blueprint for Succes

One of the most interesting books I’ve read in these summer holidays is this: “A Reefbum’s Guide to Keeping an SPS Reef Tank: A Blueprint for Success” written by: Keith Berkelhamer.

It is one of the most outstanding books, providing a huge amount of information and practical tips to reef lovers who dare to enter the world of SPS corals,” etc.
In the text is a very good utility for people who want to establish and keep a healthy SPS reef tank.

Right from the start, the author’s enthusiasm toward SPS corals permeates throughout the book, motivating the reader to become as excited and enthusiastic about SPS corals. The book provides a thorough overview of SPS corals, well explaining the special features and needs for SPS corals.

What sets this guide apart is its systematic approach. The author systematically describes the basic gear, water conditions, and housekeeping procedures required to be successful with SPS corals. Perhaps of equal interest is the great attention placed on light flow and water movement, as the author highlights their importance in creating the optimum environment for SPS corals to flourish.

In addition, the author discusses the pitfalls that can arise and offers solutions. They address practical problems including coral bleaching, algae proliferation and pests and provide solutions that actually solve these problems. Due to this, the hands-on techniques are of great help, particularly, for learners, who may face some obstacle in the process.

The presence of beautiful images is one of the distinctive aspects of this guide. The colorful and attractive visuals do not only collect the interest, but also provide visual cues to facilitate readers to recognize the various SPS corals and learn their growth tendencies.

The writing structure is not only interesting and understandable but also easily comprehensible to learners and experts. The author manages to split up difficult arguments in a way that can be made comprehensible and understandable to the reader by relating it to the setting in which the disagreeing arguments are found, thereby providing each individual reading material for his/her initial understanding.

My favourite sections were the ones in which he comments on the rationale and position of the sps, and of the photograph, in particular those with macro (a theme that I am very interested in developing in order to raise the standard of my images).

From my point of view, it is an irreplaceable tool for reef hobbyists aspiring to dive into the community of SPS corals. The author’s experience, eye for detail, and enthusiasm for the subject matter all come through to ensure the reader that this book is a true asset to success. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced reef keeper, this guide will undoubtedly enhance your knowledge and set you on the path to creating a stunning SPS reef tank.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the author for his/her marvelous effort in writing this fantastic book. It is a must-read for anyone interested in this hobby and will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on all who have the pleasure of reading it.
